he recent “ransomware” (May 11th) is worth noting. This attacked a vulnerability that affected various Windows operating systems including their Server products. Virtually all FileMaker ‘cloud’ servers run on Windows servers so the exposure was potentially huge. However, Microsoft had in fact released a patch two months earlier (March 14th) and so only those machines that hadn’t been updated were affected.
Our cloud servers are patched monthly so they were already secure but we brought the schedule forward a week in May just to make doubly sure we had done everything possible.
If your FileMaker solution is not being hosted by us, even if it is being hosted internally; it would pay to check that it is being regularly patched. For a lot of people, their FileMaker solution really is mission-critical and they cannot afford the risk of not being secured against these threats.
