FileMaker Pro 15 is the newest version of simply powerful software used to create custom apps that work seamlessly across iPad, iPhone, Windows, Mac, and the web. Get more time-saving tools to quickly build powerful custom apps for your business including Script Workspace enhancements, ESS Adapter, basic Starter Solutions, and more.

But the big news is a new commercial model called “Team” licensing which replaces* the traditionally labyrinthine FileMaker pricing matrix of seat licenses and concurrent licenses (iPad and WebDirect).

Our overview is that this represents FileMaker’s consolidating it’s position in a world that is ever more cloud-based and App focussed.

*Annual licenses (AVLA) are still available and supported in V15 but are no longer being promoted.

Last of the Line - 24/06/2016

FileMaker recently released a 14.0.6 patch. Nominally it merely installs a new PDF engine and addresses bug fixes. FileMaker does not often patches after a new version has come out, so we recommend you download and install this patch.

Go Going Gone! - 24/06/2016

On June 10, 2016, FileMaker, Inc. will be removing FileMaker Go 13 from the iTunes App Store. In November, FileMaker Go 14 will be removed. If you are using FileMaker Go on iPads and connecting to a server, you need to know this. While FileMaker Go 15 will support FileMaker Server 14, it will not connect to FileMaker Server 13. iOS SDK - 23/02/2016

FileMaker have also released an iOS SDK to developers. This enables us to make a solution that will work in FileMaker Go for iPad or iPhone and then publish it direct on the App store. So you no longer need to download FileMaker Go and load the solution files etc. You will have a bona fide iOS app just like any other.

Benefits
  1. We can build you a ‘native’ app in FileMaker that you can sell via the App store
  2. It can be stand-alone, or linked to your custom FileMaker database
  3. It can be updated in an orthodox manner

The Dust Has Settled, But… - 23/02/2016

Late last year, we had a not-too-minor kerfuffle with the release of Apple’s OS X 10.11 “El Capitan” which didn’t really work with FileMaker Pro V14. FileMaker have since released the 14.0.4 patch which addresses that issue.

However, those of you using FileMaker Pro V12 and V13 need to know that these earlier versions are not approved for use on OS X 10.11 ‘El Capitan’.

If you want to upgrade your Macs to ‘El Capitan’ (or have some new Macs coming) then you really should upgrade to FileMaker Pro V14.0.4. beforehand.
